Does the rise of China call for a new world order? How can we ensure that countries and companies tackle climate change? And is there a future for democracy? During the master’s programme Political Science at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you learn to understand politics in the light of global developments such as the changing world order, climate crisis, growing inequality, populism, globalising markets and technological advancements.
Our Political Science programme has a unique structure, in which students can pursue their personal ambitions by specializing in one of the three themes our programme has to offer. You will work in small groups in the selected issue courses and gradually work towards your own thematically organized specialization. This culminates in your individual master thesis subject within any of the chosen specializations:
Political Science: Democracy, Power and Inequality
Study the mechanisms and distribution of power
Political Science: Global Environmental Governance, Sustainability and Climate Change
Study the politics of global environmental governance
Political Science: International Relations, Security and Global Order
Study international relations and conflicts within a changing world order
