Exploring the depths of theory while anchored in material evidence

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers MA and RMA degrees in Archaeology to students from the EU and beyond. Both students and experts rate the quality of teaching at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam Archaeology highly. Thanks to a unique structure of partnerships, we are able to offer our students a large variety of course options and topics, ranging from the writing of theoretical treatises to archaeological fieldwork and laboratory analysis. Both disciplinary and interdisciplinary curricula can be selected; students can either specialise in a particular field of archaeology or broaden their interest from a Humanities-wide perspective. The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers its Archaeology program in collaboration with the University of Amsterdam, in the context of the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology(ACASA). The Humanities perspective is embedded in the VU department of Art and Culture, History and Antiquities (AHA), which opens windows to challenging related academic fields such as environmental or digital humanities and cultural heritage studies.
